Actor and former Oscar winner Nicolas Cage plans to take time off from acting to concentrate on interests, including developing independent film-making.

"I feel I've made a lot of movies already and I want to start exploring other opportunities... whether it's writing or other interests," said Cage.

Cage, 42, told the Associated Press new agency he hoped to help develop cinema in the Bahamas, his new home.

He received a career achievement award at the annual film festival in Nassau.

Sir Sean Connery, his co-star in The Rock, presented the actor with the honour on Saturday.

"Nic is a professional, and brings to the table all the stuff that makes it a real joy," said Sir Sean.

Cage's recent roles include the lead in Oliver Stone's World Trade Centre, and the remake of The Wicker Man.

The actor currently has some eight projects in the pipeline for 2007-08.
